If you are looking for German lessons online that are clear, personal, and practical, I can help. I am Joshua Sanders, and I teach one-on-one 60-minute sessions built around your goals: real conversation, rigorous grammar, and steady progress from day one.
I treat German as a living craft: precise, expressive, and endlessly discoverable. Over 10 years of teaching, I have developed a simple approach that works online. We set a clear outcome for each lesson, practice it in conversation, then reinforce it with targeted grammar and short follow-ups you can actually complete.
Every lesson has three parts:
Between lessons you get a short recap and a couple of practice prompts. Many students tell me this is the piece that finally makes consistency feel doable.
I teach true beginners through advanced learners. If you are starting from zero, we will build a foundation of sounds, core verbs, and everyday phrases that let you function quickly. If you are intermediate, we will push accuracy and range, for example tightening case endings, word order, and connector phrases that make your speech flow. If you are advanced, we will refine precision, nuance, and speed through authentic texts and targeted feedback.
Speed depends on your weekly time and focus, not talent. In my experience, two short practice blocks between lessons beat one long cram session. Most learners feel a real shift in confidence after 4-6 consistent lessons because the loop becomes familiar: you know what to expect, corrections repeat in helpful ways, and your ear starts predicting the right forms before your brain catches up.
Personalization and pacing. You are not trying to fit a preset syllabus. We adjust on the spot when a pattern clicks or a sticking point appears. Real-time feedback prevents fossilizing errors, which can happen with self-study apps. The camera and shared notes make examples visible, and you leave each session with a few lines you can reuse the same day.
We meet on a stable video platform and share a live lesson board. You will see example sentences build line by line, plus quick color-coding for word order and case endings. I keep materials simple and portable so you can review from your phone or laptop. If you have a microphone and a quiet spot, you are set.
Week 1: Sounds and sentence bones. We set pronunciation anchors and build everyday sentences with sein and haben. You leave with a tiny script for greetings and small talk.
Week 2: Present tense in action. Daily routines, questions, and answers with common verbs. Word order with adverbs becomes automatic through patterned drills and short dialogues.
Week 3: Cases that matter. Accusative with direct objects and common prepositions. We highlight the moving parts and practice with real-life tasks, like ordering food or describing a room.
Week 4: Past tense for stories. Perfect tense with haben and sein for simple narratives. We finish the month by retelling a short experience in your own words.
This is a template, not a script. Your plan might instead center on exam tasks, workplace communication, or travel essentials, but the structure stays focused and practical.
If you need German for a test or for work, we narrow your scope fast. For exams, we align lessons to the task types you will face and rehearse them under friendly pressure. For professional goals, we build scripts and frameworks that transfer, such as email templates, meeting phrases, and presentation signposts. The aim is fluency under conditions that match your real context.
Both options include a short written recap and light practice prompts between sessions. Many students start with a single session to confirm fit, then switch to the package for the lower per-lesson rate. Once you book, we confirm a time and set your first outcome together.
If you learn best through clear explanation and guided practice you can apply right away, one-on-one online lessons are usually more efficient than large classes.
You will talk more than you expect, but never be put on the spot. Corrections are brief and precise, then you try again immediately. New grammar appears in tiny pieces inside familiar sentences. I track a few personal anchor sentences for you over time, which makes improvement measurable and satisfying.
Grammar matters when it serves communication. I present one pattern at a time, show how it behaves in a real sentence, and then get you using it. If a rule helps you remember, I state it clearly. If it distracts you, I reframe it through examples. Over weeks, you will notice your ear catching mistakes before I do. That is the sign the system is working.
Definitely. The most efficient path is a light daily routine plus our weekly session. I can recommend short readings, listening clips, and speaking prompts that match your level. During lessons we correct, expand, and connect those pieces so your effort compounds.
A single 60-minute private lesson is $40. I also offer a 60-minute private lesson package at $30 per lesson. Both include a brief recap and practice prompts so you keep progressing between sessions. Many students try one lesson, then choose the package for the lower rate.
Yes. I work with true beginners through advanced learners. Beginners start with sounds, core verbs, and everyday phrases so you can use German right away. As you gain confidence, we layer in grammar in small, usable steps.
A reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a quiet space. We use a video platform and a shared lesson board, so you can see examples and notes build in real time. No special software beyond standard video tools is required.
One-on-one lessons give you immediate, personal feedback so you do not reinforce errors. We target your specific goals and adjust the pace on the fly. Apps can be a useful supplement, and I am happy to integrate them, but the live correction loop is what speeds up real progress.
Life happens. If you need to change a time, just message me as early as you can and we will find another slot. We will set a regular time if that helps your routine, or keep it flexible if your schedule shifts week to week.
If you are ready to make steady, practical progress, book a 60-minute session and tell me your goal. I look forward to working with you.
