Elite Player Development in San Antonio: How Serious Players Actually Get Better

By PK Cherry

If you are a parent in San Antonio watching your player work hard but not stand out in games, you are not alone. Most players train a lot. Very few train the right things, in the right way, with someone who corrects them in real time.

My goal is simple, and it drives everything I do: how can I bless your player the most and provide the best value? The results follow that.

The problem with most basketball training

A lot of training looks good on video and does nothing in a game. Cones in a straight line. Shooting with no defender. Drills that never ask a player to read, decide, and react.

Games are not played against cones. They are played against defenders who close out hard, pressure the ball, and force you to make a decision in half a second. If your player only practices without that pressure, the work does not transfer.

What elite player development really is

I am a former Division I coach and NBA skills trainer, and I work with professional players, including Will Baker of the College Park Skyhawks, the Atlanta Hawks' G League affiliate. The players who separate themselves do three things at an elite level.

First, defense. Ball pressure, taking charges, rebounding your position, getting 1 to 2 steals and 3 to 4 rebounds a game as a guard. Defense is what keeps a player on the floor.

Second, efficient shooting. Forty-five percent from the field and 35 percent or better from three, with real volume. Not just making shots in an empty gym, but making them off the catch, off the move, and under pressure.

Third, playmaking. Assists and a strong assist-to-turnover ratio. And here is the key most trainers miss: a player gets assists because he is a threat to score. When a defender has to respect your shot and your drive, the passing lanes open. Win every closeout, and the game opens up for everyone.

How I train players in San Antonio

Every session is filmed and corrected by section and skill level, so your player sees exactly what to fix instead of just hearing about it. We work on live reads: closeout attacks where you have to score or pass based on what the defender does, tight 1-on-1 defense, and live transition shooting. No cones only. Real basketball.

A player leaves every session with a clear picture: what improved, what still needs work, and what to practice before the next session. That is player development, not just workouts.

Who this is for

This is for dedicated players and families in the San Antonio area who are serious about getting better: middle school players building their foundation the right way, high school players trying to earn real minutes and real attention, and older players chasing college or professional opportunities. If your player wants to be pushed, coached honestly, and developed the right way, this is built for them.

What to expect in your first lesson

We start with an honest evaluation: where your player is right now, what their game actually needs, and a plan to get there. No hype, no promises I cannot keep, just a clear development path and work that transfers to games.

If you are looking for basketball training in San Antonio that develops the whole player — defense, shooting, playmaking, confidence, and basketball IQ — book a lesson here on TeachMe.To. I look forward to working with your player.
