Ryan Werlich · Pickleball coach in Queen Creek, Arizona
If you are searching for the best pickleball lessons in Queen Creek, I offer 60-minute private sessions focused on clear fundamentals and practical strategy you can use right away. I’m Ryan Werlich, a local pickleball coach working with beginners through 4.0-level goals, and I teach at My home court in Queen Creek, Arizona. Book a single lesson or a package, bring your paddle, and I will meet you with a plan that fits your game and your schedule.
What Makes A Great Pickleball Lesson In Queen Creek?
A great lesson starts with goals that match where you are today. I ask a few quick questions and watch you rally for 3-5 minutes, then I build the session around your immediate needs: clean contact, consistent placement, footwork patterns, and decision-making. Every drill ties to a point-play situation, because you should understand not just how to hit the ball, but why the shot matters in the rally.
Players often come from tennis, racquetball, or team sports, and each background brings strengths and habits. My job is to spot your natural advantages quickly and shape the areas that hold you back, so your weaknesses start adding to your strengths instead of subtracting from them.
Who I Coach: From First-Time Players To 4.0-Level Ambitions
I work with true beginners who need a clean start and with experienced players tracking toward a 4.0-level game. If you are new, we will make the rules, scoring, and court positions second nature, then build consistent serve, return, and third-shot foundations. If you are chasing a higher level, we focus on selective aggression, neutralizing attacks, and winning more points at the kitchen with controlled dinks and counterpunches.
I also coach doubles partners and small groups who want to sync communication, transitions, and patterns. The goal is simple: win more local open play and feel confident when games get tight.
How I Structure A 60-Minute Session
Your hour should feel focused and efficient. Here is a typical outline I use at My home court in Queen Creek:
Quick warm-up, movement check, and a two-minute plan recap.
Serve and return calibration for depth and directional targets.
One core building block based on your goal, for example:
Third-shot drop or drive decision tree.
Dink depth, height, and footwork under pressure.
Transition zone defense: block, reset, and move in together.
Volleys: compact swing, stable base, and smart counters.
Live pattern drilling that simulates real points.
Short competitive game or scored scenario to measure transfer.
Close with 2-3 at-home reps you can actually do, plus next steps.
I keep coaching cues simple and repeatable. For example, on resets we might use three words: stabilize, soften, aim middle. The simpler the cue, the faster it sticks when the rally gets fast.

Ryan Werlich
Pickleball coach in Queen Creek, Arizona
I have been playing pickleball since 2020. My background in sports is in soccer and basketball. I have been coaching pickleball players for 3 years. I work with beginners to 4.0 level players. My ability to see your strengths immediately as well as develop your weaknesses to ultimately add to your strengths is where I thrive.
Coaching In Arizona Conditions: Footwork, Heat, And Pace
Queen Creek play moves quickly, and summer heat changes the bounce and the pace. We plan around that. I build short work-rest intervals, hydration reminders, and shade breaks into intense days, and we use balls that match the day’s temperature. Your footwork and balance make more difference than you think when the court and ball speed up, so we train small steps, early set, and a quiet upper body.
If you tend to rush or overhit, we tilt the session toward contact quality and recoveries. If you tend to guide the ball, we add confident finishes and targeting. Little adjustments to stance width, paddle height, and contact point create big changes in your control.
Serve, Return, And The Third Shot: What I Emphasize
Strong points start with two controllable shots: the serve and return. Here is how we build them:
Serve: Height and arc for a consistent deep landing, plus one reliable spot you can hit under pressure.
Return: Deep middle as the default, plus a plan for short or heavy-spin serves.
Third shot: Decide drop or drive based on the return quality and your position. We train both so you can choose, not guess.
From there, we add the kitchen tools that win matches in Queen Creek open play: soft dinks with depth, patient reshapes of fast exchanges, and smart counters that find the opponent’s feet.
Doubles Strategy You Can Use This Week
Good doubles is not just hands speed. It is spacing, ball selection, and simple patterns you both believe in. A few examples we might drill:
Stagger and squeeze: keep three to four feet of spacing through the transition and close together at the kitchen so you do not open lanes.
Middle solves problems: when in doubt, aim middle at a safe height and make both opponents decide.
Green, yellow, red: a quick traffic-light system to agree whether you are attacking, probing, or resetting.
These habits reduce forced errors fast, which is often the fastest path to better results.
Gear And Ball Choices That Fit Arizona Play
Bring a paddle you like and shoes with good lateral support. If you are unsure about paddle weight or grip, I can help you evaluate how it affects your contact and swing speed during the lesson. In hotter months, we choose balls that hold shape and do not jump unpredictably. Hydration is part of performance, so come with water or an electrolyte mix, and a small towel helps on the hottest days.

How Much Do Pickleball Lessons Cost In Queen Creek, AZ?
I keep pricing simple, with 60-minute sessions and value built into packages:
Single lesson: $80 per lesson, pay as you go.
5-lesson pack: $68 per lesson, paid up front, book anytime.
10-lesson pack: $64 per lesson, best value for committed players.
Packages give you structure, and they save you money per session. If you are new to coaching, try one single lesson to establish a plan, then move into a 5-pack so we can build momentum without re-learning the same fixes.
What You Will Learn With Me In The First Month
Most players see the biggest gains from tightening a few basics and linking them to smart choices. Over your first three to four sessions, expect progress in:
Contact quality and ball height control at the kitchen.
Depth on serve and return, which instantly improves your rally odds.
Transition competence: fewer pop-ups when moving forward.
Doubles spacing and safer middle targets under pressure.
If you are working toward a 4.0-level game, we add counter-attack discipline, patterns for holding line at the kitchen, and selective speed-ups you can trust.
Is Private Coaching Or Group Play Better For Me?
Both help, but they do different jobs. Private lessons isolate one or two problems and solve them with individualized reps, which is faster for technical cleanup and decision confidence. Group or open play sharpens your competitiveness and adaptability, but it rarely fixes a stubborn flaw by itself. A good rhythm is one private session to focus your improvement, then take that plan into your rec games during the week.
Can I Get Results If I Only Train Once A Week?
Yes, if you keep the homework simple. Every lesson ends with 5-10 minutes of at-home reps or a short checklist for your next open play. A few examples:
30 controlled kitchen dinks crosscourt, chest quiet, contact in front.
20 serves to a taped landing zone aiming for depth, 10 from each side.
Reset practice with a partner: five-ball sequence where ball three and five must land in the kitchen.
Short, consistent practice beats long, sporadic sessions. Your progress will reflect that.
How Locals Here Can Use Coaching Right Away
Queen Creek players often tell me they struggle with pace, especially when opponents drive early and crash the kitchen. Two solutions usually change that quickly:
Return deeper and higher to push the third shot farther back, then hold your ground one extra step before following in.
When receiving a fast ball at the transition, think angle of the paddle first, feet second. If the paddle is stable and quiet, the ball softens and the next step gets easier.
These patterns are simple to remember and make a visible difference in your next doubles night.
Who I Am As A Coach
I have been playing pickleball since 2020, with a background in soccer and basketball. I have been coaching pickleball players for 3 years, and I work with beginners to 4.0-level players. My strength is seeing your strengths quickly and developing your weaknesses so they become part of your winning style.
I am based in Queen Creek, and I keep my approach practical, friendly, and clear. You will leave each lesson knowing exactly what to practice and how to measure progress.
Is This Really The Best Option For Pickleball Lessons In Queen Creek?
If you value focused, private coaching at a convenient home court with a clear plan, I would be a strong fit. My students have given my coaching a 4.8-star average across 10 reviews, and many come back in packages because they see steady improvements they can feel in real games. Try one session, then decide if a 5-pack or 10-pack makes sense for your goals.
To be thorough, one of the best ways to choose any coach is to look for three things: a simple plan that matches your level, drills that connect to point play, and specific homework you can actually do. That is exactly how I run each hour.
