Shiva Prasad · Pickleball coach in Overland Park, Kansas
If you are looking for the best pickleball lessons in Overland Park, I run practical, on-court sessions that focus on real improvement you can feel the next time you play. What Makes My Lessons Work in Overland Park
I teach by showing, then guiding you through reps that match how we actually play in Johnson County: fast hands at the kitchen, smart third balls, confident serves and returns, and better decision making in traffic. Whether you are playing for fun at Chicken N Pickle Overland Park or getting ready for your first local tournament, we blend fundamentals with game-like drills and finish each lesson with coached points. I also help my students understand DUPR so your casual rec games and league nights start translating into a measurable rating you can track.
I provide a spare paddle and pickleballs, so you can start right away. Bring your own paddle and a water bottle if you have them, and we will get you moving quickly.
Where I Coach Around Town
I keep things local and convenient. Most of my sessions run in Overland Park at spots like:
Chicken N Pickle Overland Park: great for consistent court time and play-after options.
Life Time - Overland Park: clean courts, good lighting, and ideal for structured lessons.
Blue Valley Rec Center at Hilltop: solid choice for skills sessions and drills.
Antioch Acres Park: a friendly outdoor setting for live-ball work when the weather is good.
If you are nearby in Leawood or Prairie Village, we can also meet at Leawood City Park or Meadowbrook Park depending on your schedule and court availability.
My Background and Coaching Approach
I am a versatile racquet sports player who came to pickleball through tennis and table tennis. As a player with a 4.17 DUPR rating, I focus on simple patterns that hold up under pressure and teach them through clear demos and purposeful reps. My coaching style is show, then do: I model the stroke, place you in the right footwork, then we build the shot into a point pattern you can repeat.
If you want to compete, I will help you set goals, pick events, and connect your weekly play to an improving DUPR. If you want maximum fun with fewer unforced errors, we target control, contact, and court positioning so your rallies last longer and your confidence grows.
What Will We Work On First?
Your first lesson starts with three quick checks: grip, contact point, and footwork. From there, we build skills in this order:
Serve and return: consistent depth, reliable targets, and simple cues to reduce misses.
Third shot choices: when to drive, when to drop, and how to read the defense.
Transition zone movement: clean split steps, soft resets, and how to win the fight to the kitchen.

How I Bring DUPR Into Your Practice
DUPR is most useful when you understand how it reflects match play, not just drilling. I will show you how to log matches that count, how to form balanced pairs for more accurate ratings, and which local sessions tend to produce meaningful results. In lessons, we simulate the same pressure you feel on court, then break the pattern into skill chunks you can practice between sessions. Over time, this pairing of game-like reps and smarter match tracking helps your DUPR move in a steady, predictable way.
What Do Students Say?
I keep feedback simple: clearer control, better decision making, and more fun points. A few short notes from students:
"Shiva is an excellent coach and he taught me basics of the game and I have improved a lot within 5 months!", Durga
"Learning how to control the ball better... guidance made it easier to understand key techniques... fun and informative.", Julie

Beginner Lesson Package: 3 lessons at $50 per lesson, 60 minutes each. Best for brand-new players who want rules, scoring, and clean fundamentals, with subscription scheduling so you keep consistent.
Starter To Advanced: 3 lessons at $55 per lesson, 60 minutes each. Good for beginners stepping into intermediate skills or returning players who want targeted improvement.

What Should You Bring?
Bring your paddle if you have one and court shoes that let you move safely in short bursts. I supply a spare paddle and pickleballs. If we are outdoors, pack water and a light layer for early mornings or evenings. If you are new to gear, I will explain paddle basics and ball types so your first purchase matches how and where you play.
Can We Do Online Sessions Too?
Yes. For players who want video feedback or cannot make it to the courts, I offer online coaching. We focus on stroke checkpoints, footwork maps, and tactical review of your match clips. Many students combine one in-person session at Life Time - Overland Park or Chicken N Pickle Overland Park with an online follow-up to lock in the changes.
Where Should You Play Between Lessons?
If you like organized play with easy court access, Chicken N Pickle Overland Park is a reliable option for drop-in games and socials. For members who prefer a fitness-club environment, Life Time - Overland Park works well for predictable court time. When the weather is friendly, Antioch Acres Park offers a relaxed outdoor vibe for drilling your serves, returns, and dinks.
Use our lesson notes as your weekly plan: pick two skills, set a simple target like 30 quality reps on each side, then finish with 10 minutes of serve placement. Small, consistent practice multiplies fast once you return to coached points.
How Quickly Will You See Improvement?
Most players feel immediate gains in control and decision making after the first session. The biggest jumps usually come after 2-3 lessons, once your footwork and contact points settle and you stop giving away free points. If you are chasing a DUPR milestone, we will sketch a realistic path based on your current level, your weekly play options in Overland Park, and smart match selection.
Is This Really The Best Way To Learn Locally?
I build every session around the exact courts and competition you face here in Overland Park. We drill what matters, then pressure test it in point play, with a clear plan you can take to your next rec night. If you want a coach who explains DUPR, keeps you accountable with specific targets, and meets you at convenient local venues, I would love to work with you.
