Working with Johnny has been a total game-changer. His attention to detail and biomechanics is unmatched—he picked up on subtle grip and footwork flaws that other pros missed for years. He breaks down complex technical adjustments so they actually make sense and stick. Lessons are well-structured, high-energy, and extremely rewarding. If you want real progress fast, book Johnny!

Finding a coach who knows how to teach real fundamentals to a young player while keeping them genuinely excited to be on court is incredibly rare. Coach Johnny built our son’s game from the ground up when he was little. He never took shortcuts or taught quick fixes—he instilled clean stroke mechanics, proper footwork, and an authentic respect for the sport right from the start. What stood out most was the balance: he held him to high standards of effort and discipline, but they had an absolute blast together every single session. The technical foundation our son developed during those early years is still the backbone of his game today. If you want a coach who genuinely cares about long-term development, character, and building a lifelong love for tennis, Coach Johnny is as good as it gets.
Questions about private tennis lessons
What ages do you teach?
8-18
Can I start as a complete beginner?
Yes, I teach beginner tennis and help beginners build solid foundational habits. I also specialize in stroke adjustments and practical match tactics. Share your experience and goals so we can discuss whether the lessons are a fit.
Do I need my own tennis racket?
Yes, please bring your own tennis racquet. I provide balls, a hopper, targets, and elastic bands; please also bring water, a snack, a towel, and sunscreen. If you don’t have a racquet, ask me before booking whether one can be arranged.
Where do lessons take place?
Tennis lessons take place at Chestnutt Park, Comanche Park Tennis Court, Paiute Park, and Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, or Indian Bend Park Tennis Courts in Tempe. Ask which venue is available for your preferred time before booking.
Can I take a lesson with a friend or family member?
Yes, you can take a tennis lesson with a friend or family member. I prefer a maximum of 2 students for a 1-hour lesson or 4 students for a 2-hour lesson. Let me know your group size and preferred lesson length when arranging a time.
What happens during the first lesson?
In your first tennis lesson, I’ll evaluate your level, work on strokes, and discuss your goals and timeline. Please bring your racquet; I provide balls and a hopper.
Do you travel with Junior to tournaments?
Yes. I believe watching players compete in actual match conditions is crucial for real development. Observing a player during competition reveals their true technical habits under pressure, court demeanor, and competitive mindset—insights that simply can't be replicated during practice sessions alone.
What is your main goal when coaching junior players?
My primary goal is to guide dedicated junior players toward earning a college tennis scholarship, whether that means competing at the NCAA Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, or NAIA level. I design every aspect of training—from technical biomechanics and physical habits to match tactics and tournament strategy—to build the complete profile college recruiters look for.
