This is true in most cases. Without learning the proper fundamentals that require a tennis coach present, it will be difficult to fully grasp the realistic nature of the sport. However, having an experienced tennis instructor to facilitate your learning will ensure you are set up properly in all areas of the game. There is a big difference between a recreational level tennis player and an intermediate/advanced level tennis player. Therefore, it is crucial that you have some sort of coach with specific expertise to evaluate your shots and footwork so you're not aimlessly playing and getting irritated on why you're not hitting the ball on the strings consistently or having trouble keeping the ball inside the lines or even having a hard to time maintaining a consistent rally with your opponent.
When you have a tennis coach to help your tennis it will be beneficial in becoming more confident on court and allows you to constantly think about the things you were taught in your lessons while practicing or competing on your own. It is also important to continue with the same coaching as having multiple instructors often creates contradicting outlooks which leads to an overall counterproductive outcome for your tennis. These are the main reasons why having tennis lessons is worth the investment.
