My coaching style is very useful if you are looking to improve quickly. However, it takes a committed player that applies the advice I give in each session to when you are practicing on your own. Trusting the process is very important especially for a sport with this level of difficulty so a lot of patience is required. This means you are recognizing what went wrong when hitting the ball out or missing into the net and correcting those issues as soon as they happen, Most coaches will say that tennis has a bigger mental side to the sport compared to the technique or physical aspects. I agree with this concept as the sport is mostly individual and this plays a big role in the level at which you play. For example, you can be playing a tennis match and you notice that you start missing a lot of shots back to back and start getting mad about it --- and this causes you to miss more -- so you start playing worse as a result. That is where the mental aspect comes into effect making you have to stay mentally strong to come back from those misses. If you are able to handle these areas and improve in them efficiently, it will make you a better tennis player in a less amount of time.

I like to set my beginner level students up with their first long term goal to be reaching the consistent rally because that is when tennis becomes most fun to play. Another common issue I notice when seeing other players playing tennis is two players are rallying with each other 1 on 1 and one player clearly is able to maintain a consistent rally while the other player is having trouble keeping the ball in so the rally is not able to have that many shots. The best way to fix this problem is by finding a slow enough pace to hit the ball for both players so the less experienced player can be more likely to hit the ball back more times. Another good practice to improve in this area is to see how many times both can hit the ball back and forth without missing (can track to keep count) and doing this over and over and setting goals is a great drill. As you get better at this, start to increase the pace of each shot gradually.

Therefore, adopting some of these approaches and applying these mental aspects would help you reach your consistent rally goal. It is important to remember this isn't something that would be able to happen right away as it takes a lot of reps and patience. Obviously with the proper coaching with this plan would help this happen sooner which is why I know that with my coaching style and lesson structure I can take you to that level. I implement my D1 tennis experience to my coaching which goes over the proper fundamentals, technique & form guidance, and footwork drills when raising your level and reaching the intermediate level with a consistent rally.
