I was only fortunate enough to know and work with David Byrne for a little over a month before he relocated to California, but that short time made a lasting impact on my game. I truly enjoyed his passion for golf and his genuine desire to help players get better. David often went out of his way to coach me between lessons whenever he wasn’t already busy teaching others—something I greatly appreciated. At 67 years old, I’m not looking to completely rebuild my golf swing, and David understood that from day one. His approach focuses on helping you find a swing thought that works for your swing, rather than forcing a onesizefitsall method. He helped me understand my swing plane and path, and how to consistently get into the right position before impact. After that, his favorite encouragement was always: ‘Turn the corner!’ And it worked. David is a talented instructor, an insightful coach, and an allaround good person. And watch out for his son—just a wee lad with a fabulous golf swing already! David’s passion clearly runs in the family.

In my twenty years playing golf and taking a myriad of lessons from a myriad of pros, Davey Byrnes stands out as a professional par excellence. Not only does he thoroughly understand and teach mechanics, but he is a master of sports psychology. When my friends and I play golf, we are constantly repeating phrases to each other from Davey. It is uncanny how many little tidbits he has given us that stand out in our minds and build our confidence. Davey relates equally well to men, women and children. He makes each person feel special and positive about the game without regard to their level of skill. When we return from a round he always takes an interest and asks how we did and offers constant encouragement for the next round. It is obvious that Davey loves what he does and his enthusiasm is contagious. When you take a lesson from Davey you are spoiled to take lessons from anyone else.

Working with David, a PGA professional, has completely transformed my golf game. As a beginner, I started with a high handicap, and through his coaching it has dropped significantly. David has an incredible ability to break the game down into clear, understandable pieces that make learning and improving feel natural. What makes David truly special is that he understands both the mental and physical sides of the game. He helps you build a better swing while also teaching you how to think about the game in a way that leads to better results on the course. David is a gifted teacher, and thanks to his coaching I now feel like someone who can genuinely compete and hold my own on the course. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their game.
